One caveat is that pictures aren't scalable on a button, unlike they are on an image control.  Whether you use built-in or self-made pictures, you're going to need big and small versions of the pictures for the buttons if you anticipate changing the sizes of controls, forms, etc., due to the need of resizing forms, resolution, etc.
