Margins are the first place I would start.  
Make sure no element of your report exceeds the width of the paper minus the margins. So if you have 1/2" margins (Left and Right) you only have 7 1/2 inches to print in. (8.5" - 1" = 7.5" )
Even if there is nothing in the field going outside the margin it will spit out an extra blank page. Make sure everything is slightly less than the 7.5" mark.

Also, if you have a page count those are often put outside the printable area and you might need to move that into the printable area.

Just before the 7.5" mark did the trick, thanks! Is it usually the width that causes the extra page?

That has been my experience Michael.  I'm sure there are other reasons but I find to wide is most often the issue.
