Development Documentation

I'm a self-taught, on staff, one-man-gan developer.  As a result, I've never been exposed to a professional development environment.

Can you provide information as to the tools you may use to document the development process?  I'm looking for things such as time tracking, best ways to track versioning, development note taking, application use documents, etc.

I'm familiar with the built in reporting and documenting features of Access but are there any 3rd party tools out there that you rely on and what is your "formal" process for tracking things as you go.

Thanks for any insights you can provide.

I'd advise using VCS / GitHub to keep a backup of your db in a source control system.

For documentation I like to use docfx, it's the documentation tool that Microsoft use for all their stuff.

Learn markdown and you can't go wrong.

Thank you so much for your reply Alex.  I'll check into those things.

You can also add in ERD diagrams using mermaid.js, amongst many other things.

I was going to say I hope that Alex answered that question because I have never been in a professional development environment either. I taught myself how to program at 8 years old and I've been a one-man band ever since so I have no clue how to work in development teams.
