Update Queries

I have a question about update queries. I am including a screenshot to show what I mean. I would like to remove the Xs in my sample and just get rid of them and leave the rest. I have tried update queries to do this but I can't seem to get the X's to vanish without disturbing the rest of my entries I have watched the lesson on string functions and also the lessons on update queries I must be missing something.

In my screenshot below I have successfully removed all character to the left of the colon (it included). I also used the Trim() function to remove any leading space. You should be able to easily create your Update Query from this.

I must be totally missing something here. I am just trying to remove the Xs and colon with the space and leave the rest of the name. when finished it needs to be in the FN Field not a new one. I have tried for a few hours with the sample in your screenshot and it works fine until I perform the update then it is not at all what I expect. Last time it removed the records with the Xs in them and replaced them with an *  and nothing else.

I am just trying this with this sample and not my original Database.

The easier way is to do the whole thing in one step in the Update Query.

Trim(Right([FirstName],Len([FirstName])-InStr([FirstName],":")))

This is what I have done with what you just gave me. I realized that I have other records with different strings before the colon so this should limit my query to just the records that have XXX to start. I just can't figure out what I have done wrong. I have used Update Queries a few times and never had any trouble like this before.
