1524 error and Chinese characters
Cameron

Hello,
I work for a software company that has a large access vba database application that we developed years ago in access 97.  After porting it over to Access 2007, we have noticed an occasional -1524 error that will occur.  Upon further investigation we find that normally this means one of our records in our database is what we're calling "corrupt."  Basically most fields in that record have been turned into non-sense characters... such as odd squares, Chinese(possibly Japanese) characters.

Upon even further investigation, we have theorized that these errors are linked to a "write conflict error" that appears.  With options "save changes, copy to clipboard or drop changes"  I also theorize that "drop changes" never creates bad records, while the other two options sometimes do and sometimes don't.

I have not verified that "corrupt" records are created only when "write conflict error" appears.  These chinese characaters do not always appear from the same events.

Has anyone else encountered similar situations in their access 2007 application and do you have any solutions?  Also if anyone is an expert in this subject, we would definitely be interested in possibly contracting some work with you to help resolve this.  This is a major issue to us, and it's worth it to us to resolve this.

Thank you,
Cameron Arrowood

Reply from Richard Rost:

Does a COMPACT/REPAIR fix the problem? Is this a single-PC database or are you running it across a network?
