One thing I would take look at your network and see if it is using a HUB or Switch. All the computers on a HUB monitor the data being transmitted on the network. With a large amount of data being transmitted data corruption or collisions occur. Think of being like a telephone party line.

A switch creates a virtual connection from point to point practically eliminating collisions. Also an advantage of having a switch eliminates each computer from having to monitor all the network traffic and will speed up your network as well.

Hope this helps

Gary

Reply from Richard Rost:

Good idea, Gary. I had this problem with a client YEARS ago. I haven't worked much on networks in the past few years, so I'm always apt to jump on the SOFTWARE end of the problem first... but a simple thing like slow network HARDWARE architecture would definitely cause this problem. A fast gigabit SWITCH would be the way to go for heavy network traffic like this.
