I want to build an ancestry database for my family tree.  I am stuck on how to build the tables and relationships because each ancestor can be both a parent and a child and they can have a one to many relationship depending on the role.  Is there a way to build it so I don't have to have a person in both a parent table and a child table?  I was thinking of having an "ancestor" table with a role field indicator field that identifies them as the parent or a child and base the relationship off of it, but I don't know how to go about it.
