You question is quite complex. But i would probably use the OpenFileDialog i.e., the user browses through a list of files and then selects the file that he wants to open/import.

If you really want to use the inputbox, then you could capture the result of the input box and append it to the full path to the folder where the file is located.
Something like;
Dim X as string
X = FullPathToFolderWhereFileOfInterestIsLocated
X = X & "\" & ResultFromInputbox
Application.FollowHyperlink X

I wouldn't go for option 2 though. Why? The users may probably not enter the file extension...like .mdb, .xlsx or they may misspell the name of the file and the computer will interprete your instruction as if the file does not exist.
So? Go for the FileDialog
