Split Database Help
Launa Sallai

I have a split database.  The Master, the Back-End, and the accde file.  Am I able to make a copy of the master, make changes, all while users are using the original master, then once complete, replace the master file with the changed one, then save and make my new accde file? I have not done this yet.  I'd appreciate any knowledge on this!   I am assuming because the data is in a separate file, I can replace the master at anytime without affecting anything.  Which is why we do this split database.

Thanks
Launa

So you have 3?
Is the master the FE & BE combined?

no not combined, separate.  I have a masterfile, the back end (tables), and the accde file. So three files.

Just as a reminder, posting in these forums does not guarantee a response when you sign up for my lessons or memberships. The individuals who answer questions here are volunteers, contributing in their own time. I, personally, do not offer technical support. We all try to answer questions when we can, but please don't assume that assistance is guaranteed. Also, none of us make phone calls. We are happy to help, but it's important to set the correct expectations.

To answer your question, yes, one of the benefits of splitting the database is that it allows individual users to have their own copies of your front-end ACCDE file. Meanwhile, you can continue to work on your ACCDB copy, making developmental changes without affecting their copies. Once you're finished making changes, you just distribute the updated ACCDE copies to them. My Access Updater simplifies this process; with one click, everyone receives the updated database.
