Problem With Link Path
Jorge Restrepo

I have a database at the office with the backend (be) at a server.  The fe sometimes I take home and relink to
a local copy of the be in my pc. At home I update the fe, without making structural changes to the be copy of the be. When I am finished at home, I would like to update the server link path, so when I send back the fe to the office it will automatically link the be tables to the
server. But when I try to input the server path, while at home, it does not allow me to do that, because it cannot link to the server at that moment since I am not at the office. Do any of you know a way around that ? Thanks.

In order to relink the tables Access has to be able to connect to the files that you are linking to.  That is why it fails for you.
See Relink Tables

In Access Developer 33 Richard goes much more in depth on publishing new front ends and having the individual copies update themselves.

Another alternative would be  to use a remote access software - I use SplashTop but I think Google has one that is free. I'm sure there are others.  Upload the file and relink from home.

Some of this depends on convenience and how many workstations you need to update at work.

If you want something that is more ready right out of the box check out the
Access Updater template.

Scott, thanks for the ideas.  I just wanted to investigate is there was a quick solution or if I was missing something.

Hi Jorge,
Look up mapping a network drive. I use it all the time to emulate the server location so I can easily work with the database and
ship it back when done.
