Disable Print

Hi Richard. When the user is on the main form they forget to open the report to a specific product and print and they accidentally push control P and prints the form and that is hundreds of products. Many paper sheets! Is there a way to disable control P on the main form to prevent that? and force them to push the report button? Thanks
Masih

This is a tough issue to deal with, because a user can press Ctrl-P to print even when no form or report is opened.  Ctrl-P simply prints whatever that is selected on the navigation pane.  Also, Windows cannot restrict programs to use certain printers only.  It's all or nothing: once a printer is installed in Windows, all programs can use it.  Besides printing in Access, users can also easily print in browsers, email programs, Word, Excel, etc.  In my old job, I was the IT manager, so the responsibility to deal with this fell to me.  I simply allowed only select users to print.  Users who were not allowed to print simply would not have any printers installed on their PCs.  And those who were allowed to print had to be trained vigorously on what to do and not to do, which was a long list of things: check page count before printing, preview output before printing to paper, choose the right printer, check for printer queue errors, etc.  Not to mention, there were also the mundane tasks of maintaining a printer: check for low ink, low toner, low paper quantity, replace ink/toner, add paper, etc.  With the high costs of paper and ink/toner today, the best thing to do is often do away paper-printing altogether and print everything digitally, saving tons of headache in the process.

Indeed, printing is a pain. I'm going to show you in a few videos how to disable Ctrl-P, turn off the right-click menu, and disable the Print Preview Ribbon. Should work for most instances. Coming next week.
