Record Logic DMAX DLOOKUP
Mike

I would like to restate my problem another way.  On Oct. 1 of each year I need to count records beginning with record number 1.  The record count needs to auto reset and start over at 1 the beginning of the next fiscal year.  Apparently this is not an easy problem to solve due to difficulty in the logic.  I am using a command button to get record number and an unbound field to show it.  Getting it to auto change on Oct. 1 has not been solved.

Thanks

This would be tricky. If this is something you could just do yourself once a year (make a calendar reminder or something) then I would just make a field called "FiscalCount" and set that to 0 for the first record past 10/1 for that year. Then use a standard DMAX function to figure out the next value.

Now if you want that value to be AUTOMATICALLY set to 1 when the first record is added past 10/1 of any year, then that will take a little more programming. You'd need to use the BeforeInsert event for the form where the record is inserted. You'd need to use the DLOOKUP function to see if any other records have been added since 10/1 of the current year. If not, set that value to 1. If so, increment it using the method above.

So it CAN be done... it will just involve some work and testing. :)
