Inner and Outer Joins Consignment DB
Judy B

Hello to all !

Lets start with I am New at complex access.

I have a database that tracks inventory for consignment (very simple inventory, not designed to do accounting transactions other than an Invoice print out).

Client wants a form that looks like his half page Invoice.
1. He wants it to show what the consignee has in the store (in first column), wants to go in the store and enter a count of that Inventory (in second column) and have it calculate the difference (in the third column).

I have a query that will sum by customer (not the problem).

The problem is ... he wants this form to show rows for each Inventory item he sells, whether or not the customer Inventories them (Only 13-15,just in case they want to buy them).

Where would I start to design the subform to show all Inventory Items from the ItemsT and sum all the transactions from the TransT in the appropiate columns on the InvoiceF?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Reply from Richard Rost:

If you use a ONE-TO-MANY relationship and set up an OUTER JOIN you should see ALL records from the table on the left and matching records from the table on the right of the join. With the default INNER JOIN you'll only see records from both tables where there are matches. An OUTER JOIN allows you to see, for example, ALL customers and their orders, whether the customer has an order or not.
