Movie clip for splash screen
Nathan Shepard

I want to incorporate a movie clip into a splash screen.  I have a Mp4 file.  I am looking for ideas on how to make a splash screen with it.  I also need to put my company name on it.  In the biggest letters possible.  If you have ideas how to do this.  I would appreciate suggestions.  Thank you before hand.

Nathan

I was thinking maybe power point could handle it.

Is the intention to grab a frame from the mp4 file and edit it for your splash screen? There are lots of videos out there on t'interweb covering how to create a custom splash screen. I haven't looked at them to see if anything more than using a still is possible.

One way to do it is hide the default splash screen, create an animated GIF of your MP4, then create a startup form that shows the animated GIF.  My advice is that most users hate splash screens and want to turn it off after seeing it once, so don't spend too much effort on this.  Many applications make it optional, and hide it in the Help...About menu.

Yeah, I've never done this before, so let me know what you figure out.

I tried to convert a mp4 to a ppt.  None of the converters that were free worked.  I am stilling working on it.  A lot of the sites wanted to download garbage onto my computer.  Nope,  Not on my computer.  So standby for future results.

To those who responded.  I thank you.  I will be checking out their suggestions.

Along the lines of what those guys said, you could try an animated GIF in an Edge browser control in a pop-up modal form that starts when your database starts. That's what I would try. Then you can control how long it stays open and then shut it down when the database loads.

If you're wanting to edit the mp4 file and create various things, there is a free editor called VideoProc Vlogger. I've used this to create several videos. (There is a bit of a learning curve.) Otherwise to start with, if you want to keep things simple, you could play and stop the mp4 file on the frame you want as a splash screen, do a screen grab then import this into PP and edit as necessary.
I agree with Kevin's comments, though. Users will want to turn the splash screen off once they've seen it a couple of times, especially if it takes more than a second or two.

Yeah, I always go really light with Splash screens too. In fact, I always give users a way to turn them off if they're going to last more than a couple seconds. The only real purpose of a splash screen is to briefly advertise the product or company - like super brief - and then give the user something to look at if the program's going to take more than a few seconds to load. But I try not to aggravate or irritate my users - well, to a certain point. Sometimes I like aggravating them. Just kidding. Not. Yeah.

Normally it's because you're loading some complex routine in the background so it's to distract users from not being allowed to interact.

Could you have an about button in the header to show the same info?

I am considering all your suggestions.  Up to this point.  I have not found a way to convert MP4 to Power Point.  NOne of the converters work.  Will work on it this weekend.

What's the reason for PowerPoint?
Were you wanting to embed that in an Access Form?

I want so large print for my company name.  Type 72 is not big enough.  Anyone have suggestions as to editing MP4 file.  I need to put the company name on the splash screen.  I will limit it to 5 seconds.  Thank you Alex Hedley, Richard, David and Kevin.  This weekend is the soonest I will get to it.

Nathan, can you clarify what editing of the mp4 file you want to do. Is it just to capture one frame?

The mp4 file contains a movie of the universe.  When its in motion it has circular motion.  I need the largest type I can get spelling out galaxy Software L.L.C. Its not going to displayed on screen for more then 5 seconds.  I need the navigation pane and ribbon to be off.  Those two I have the code for turning it off.  Alex,  I am not sure what you mean by embed in an access form?

I don't understand the need for PowerPoint at all?
If you want a screen grab of the video can you not just use snipping tool then edit it in Paint?

Also do the branding dept not have logo graphics etc you could just ask for?

As mentioned, if you want to edit (add titles, words, etc.) the mp4 file and keep it, using VideoProc's free Vlogger is one way. There are other mp4 editors out there.
If you just want one frame from the mp4 file then play the mp4, stop on the relevant frame, do a screenshot/screen grab and, as Alex says, import into Paint or similar.
