There is no control source specified for the unbound combo control. All I want to do is to enter data into it, and for the data to remain in that control for that record when I navigate away from it rather than it being repeated for all the other records. The data entered will then be copied into another table via a button

OK. That will work fine for SINGLE forms, but not for CONTINUOUS forms. If the combo box isn't bound to a field, then it will have the same value on EVERY RECORD of the entire form.
