Adding a Record
Debby Lawrence

Morning I have developed a DB for a client and their users seem to be confused as to whether a record is saved.  User Manual states to just move off record but the manager has asked if there is a button they can click to confirm ADD - any suggestions?

Just create a button that the caption is 'save'.
'On click' event, just issue this one line command :
Me.refresh

Hi Debby. You've just hit on my pet (you'll see a pun in a moment) peeve with Access standard forms. I have cats, two strays that have adopted me, and when I'm not at my desk, and forget to lock the display, they love to add strange additions to my code or forms. I call it cat tracks.

Users have the same problem with distractions and unintentional changes (ooops, did I just make that change to the incorrect record? Which one was it?). At the very least, I like to see two buttons on a form, Exit and Save. I also like an Edit button, so a user knows they are making changes and not just previewing records.

Having these buttons can get quite complicated with VBA code though, as one has to work around and suppress the native inclinations of Access. This is just one of the many user-interface issues a developer must deal with when presenting a user with an intuitive and communicative application beyond the out-of-the-box Access solution.

See the image below for my use of these command buttons.
