Access Security 2003
Tim Peter

Correct, we have an internal server that hosts the office files. It was created with Access 2003 and we upgraded to windows 7 with office 2010. I know the security wizard is no longer available in 2010 but didn't think my employee table would be usless for security in 2010. We have Access stored in 2 different places so I can use one path for 2010 and was hoping that by having a seperate pc with only Access 2003 on it I could still maintain and add to the security of the database. But, something is not allowing the table to update in the security window so I can add people. I can only change the people that were already there before the update. As far as the security issue with hacking not really a concern. We use it for currentuser function and so only certain managers can see reports. If someone did hack into it nothing would be comprimised. Hopefully you have some thoughts on why this is happing, doesn't make sence to me why I could do it before and now it will not. Thanks again for your help.

Reply from Richard Rost:

Well, if you never upgraded the database from 2003 to the 2007 file format, I can't understand why you would be having this problem. Again, I'll be honest, I was never a big fan of Access security so I didn't use it much myself... and I certainly never used it in a mixed 2003/2010 environment. In my Security Seminar I teach how to set up user-level security WITHOUT using the built-in Access user-level security that 2003 and previous versions came with... just because it was so buggy. Without getting in there and playing with your database, I don't know if I would be of much help.
