Currency to Words
John Muir

In a string, when this field, [TotalSettlement] is populated with $15,000 i want the report to display: FIFTEEN THOUSAND AND 00/100 Dollars ($15,000.00)

Chat Gpt advised to create a module - To display the amount in words as well as numerically formatted in your report, you will need to use a custom function to convert the numeric value to words. Microsoft Access doesn't have a built-in function to convert numbers to words, so you need to create one.

But i can't make it work...
Here is the Code, which makes the post probably too long (if so let me know):

[CODE REMOVED]

Hi John. Yeah we frown upon posting tons and tons of code here in the Forums. Rule #8.

I cover how to do this in my Check Register Seminar, and in Access Developer 5. There is also code to do this in the Code Vault for Gold Members.

I remember doing the Currency to Words for a Paradox database I did way back in time.  Lots of Select Case stuff.  Then I did it for a Website.  And sadly if my Access project gets to that point - I will have to do it again.  Granted I almost never issue checks.

Sorry for the lengthy code and thanks.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I started the Code Vault - it was actually just for myself at first. I'd be building a database and run across something I'd need and say to myself, "I know I built this code a few years ago... now what project was it in?" I'd spend more time trying to find the right database file than it would have taken to just rewrite the code. LOL. Now, just search for it, and BAM! it's in the Vault. :)

I built my own Code Vault database which includes a Search Form.

Sweeeeeet. I've never needed much more than the basic search that the website offers. Do you suggest I add more search functionality here?

Richard
You need to license Kevin's DB.
I am serious, you need that functionality on the site.

I will be looking for something, I know it exist because I watch the video, but I may have to go through very large amount of results in the Wood index search

Normally the search engine only looks in the titles, description, and keywords of a page - to keep things fast for simple searches like "DLookup". However, if you click the "Full Page Text" link it will search the complete text of the page too, including the pages with the transcripts. Takes a few seconds longer, but it may help you find what you're looking for.

And down at the bottom of all the results, you can click this link to use Google to search just my site...

I did not know about the Google search. I will definitely try that.

Yeah, that's why I didn't spend a ton of time making a really super cool search engine for my site because I know Google already has it and it's just one more click.

Guess I'm not alone at creating our own code vault, or tracking the videos and samples.  I'm tracking the videos as well and doing or following along as well, sadly I'm two to three weeks behind right now because I did something very very bad to it.

Used code from code vault. created text box: =ConvertCurrencyToEnglish([TotalSettlement]) & " ($" & Format([TotalSettlement],"Standard") & ")"

Can't get it to work. Popup asks: ConvertCurrencyToEnglish and get #Type! error.

Guessing my Module2 is wrong - maybe didn't correct make the mocule?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

John

If you didn't change the name of the function, it should be CurrencyToEnglish NOT ConvertCurrencyToEnglish.

Thanks Kevin! That was the answer. Also, Richard's code was better for my situation than ChatGpt.

I might not be as fast as GPT, but I guarantee my code works better.

For now. :)
