Subform or Open Form

I've been watching your videos (Blank Template, Relationships, Contacts, Invoicing), and I'm not understanding what I missed. When I added a subform to another form (contacts) it updates the ID in the table (ContactsTable) correctly. But when I added a button just to open the ContactsForm instead of showing a subform. When I go to the ContactsTable to check the information it's not showing the ID to show it's linked.

The Parent Form/Subform relationship sets the ID. If you open the Form independently you will need to set a Default Value.

I don't think that's it. I'm missing something on the relationship side. On the Contact Table, when I added the sub form (contacts) to the Customer form it connected the ID's. But when I created a button just to open the contact form from the customer form and added something, it's not adding the ID's anymore.
