You need to join it with a Query and pull in the description of the related item instead of the id

I am not sure what you mean. I have a separate Table for city and one for state. When creating the combo box I pull in the ID For the State or Country and the name. Then I set the field To the city or state field on the Table. So It saves my choice to the table. But Instead it saves the Id not the text. Should I not have put the City/Country ID in the Combo Box.

I was using this before by just typing the information in and it was working fine. All I did was just make these fields Combo Boxes.

I have watched these multiple times. With no luck on solving my problem. I have set my comboxes up just as Richard has in Beginner 8 with the table and all. It just stores numbers in my table no text.

After 5hrs of thinking about all that was said in your comments and watching beginner 8 one more time I think I have figured this out finally. I removed the Ids in the tables for state and country and redid the combo boxes and everything seems to be working. Thanks for your help without it I may never have considered what to change.

You really should keep the IDs for that is/should be the linking field, but you need to/want to show the text field represented by that ID. I will make a demo for you in the morning. John

I just watched your video and I think I understand what you are saying. But in my database I am drawing from CityT and storing that in my PersonT, likewise with Country. I don't have to link to these tables to any other tables, they are just data holders to pull from to put in my main Table. That is why I don't need the Id numbers. Just the text. I hope that you understand what I mean. I have other tables that are linked, (one is a cross table for some many to many Relationships). Everything is working the way I want it to right now. Going back to beginner 8 I found something that I forgot or passed over, Adding to the table in a combo box. That is a great time saver for me in case I forget an item in the table I can just add it simply with a form that comes on my screen when needed. I'll work with the stuff you sent me, it never hurts to learn more! Thanks for your time and I'll let you know.

I recommend storing the ID in your main table not the text. But if you must then remove the ID from the Row Source of the Combo Box. You will also need to edit the Column Count and Column Widths properties.

I think I can incorporate this system into my database. But I am having trouble with making a form that lists both the birth and the date. I have made three new queries in my practice database. Which concatenate the birth place, the Death place, and the name. But for some reason when I make a form using these queries it will not show the data that I want. If the birth place or the death place is missing it will not show that individual. When I run the BirthplaceQ (the query that combines the Birth city state) it runs fine same with the DeathPlaceQ and the FullNameQ. But together they do not function properly.

Please post screenshots of your Queries so we can see what you have. Very difficult to troubleshoot without seeing.

Three of these queries (BirthQ-DeathQ and BirthDeathQ) are what I got from John Davy with minor alterations all others or based off of these three.
