Search Combo Box Inoperative
Dwayne Parker

I'm trying to create a combo box to search for a record.

(I'm making my way through the beginner videos, and I just finished Beginner 8 where we talk about this issue.)

So, I tried to put this cool combo box to search for a record on the 'continuous form' that we had completed in a previous beginner lesson. I can "create" the combo box just fine. I can see it and everything. But I can't click on it nor type in the box.

I have attached two photos so you can see what I'm talking about, and the steps I followed.

Thanks!

1)This is based on a Query not a table. That is why it does not ask you to hide the ID.
2) The Query is not Editable (Too complex) that is why you can't edit.

Thanks for your response Sami.

I have now based the form on a table. That seems to have resolved SOME of the problems. For example, as I prepare the Combo Box, the Wizard DOES ask me to hide the Customer ID. So all of that is great!

However, again, when the Combo Box is created, I cannot type inside the box, nor can I select any of the drop down options.

Any clue what could be going on?

What is the form (Not the Combo box) bound to?
Send images of the design of the form

Sami - you're a HERO !!!! It worked!

I can't thank you enough for working with me through the steps. I learned so much for this mistake.

Thank you so much!

One last question on this same topic.

What if you only remember one word in the cell, and that word is not the first word?

I tried searching for the 2nd or 3rd word in the record and I got the error message: 'The Text You Entered Isn't An Item In The List' ' but, as you can see, the word IS, indeed, in the list. It's just not the first word.

What's your take? I just finished Beginner 9, so maybe this is addressed at a higher level? Glad to get your feedback on this.

You will need to remove the ID from the Combo Box and update the WHERE condition in the Macro.
In my example below I have used the search box Richard built in class.

You will need to know about Wildcards

Thanks so much Kevin.

I'll keep this goal on the backburner for now.

I haven't even gotten to Macros just yet. I'm just finishing Beginner 9.

But thanks for the info, and I'll circle back to them soon.
