Inclusivity Matters

Those are great sentiments, of course, but some beliefs are strongly held, and in the case of religious beliefs, they are considered protected, even by the highest courts.  Therefore, if I were you, I would probably sell these people on the idea of practicality instead of making even the slightest provocation over beliefs.  And if they insisted on beliefs, I would make my app "flexible" for them and for the general public.  For instance, I might hide or reveal certain info on the app based on user preferences, which should be an easy enough thing for an Access developer to do.  That would be the "practical" way to deal with this situation because it would sort of make their belief a non-issue.

But once you engage these people on their sacred beliefs, there is no end to it.  The wedding cake store that was sued a few years ago for not selling cakes to gay couples is involved in yet another case: the refusal to sell a pink-and-purple cake because those are Pride colors.  It's SUCH a stupid and petty reason to refuse a sale, let alone to go to court for.  Pink and purple are also used on your website and in Access, Richard, so I'd be nervous if I were you!  If I faced such a problem in Access, I would again go the "practical" route and just add a "color picker" so the user could put whatever colors they want on the app.

This is the ugly thing about the internet. People feel they can do and say whatever they want and will fight until the end about it. If you have ever challenged someone on social media, you know that Kevin is right: "Once you engage these people on their sacred beliefs, there is no end to it."

I am, and always have been, a man of science. While I firmly believe in someone else's right to believe in whatever they want, and to practice their religious beliefs, those liberties stop where they infringe on the rights of someone else.

When someone tries to dump cat shit in my sandbox, I'm going to engage my magic Pooper Scooper +3. I don't come to your flat-earth, anti-evolution, anti-vax YouTube channel or website and tell you about how wrong you are. If you come to my house and spout nonsense, I'm gonna give you the Ban Hammer. Plain and simple.

Whether or not you support gay rights, civil rights, [insert political or religious ideology here], whatever... that doesn't give you the right to spout hatred and vitriol in someone else's "space" and go unchecked.

I do my best not to inject religious or political themes in my business. I respect others' right to hold whatever beliefs they want. However, not all beliefs deserve respect (see also: Nazis, KKK). If you are spouting hate speech, then no... I don't respect you, and I will remove you from my life. I ain't got time for that nonsense.

Fortunately, I've been doing this a long time, and I've built up a solid base of very loyal customers. When I first started my own business back in the 90s, and I had only a few clients, I was extremely careful not to lose any of them. I tolerated some pretty F'd up situations because I needed the work. Now, however, I have the luxury of not needing hate-filled twat waffles as subscribers.

I have no problems "firing" customers. So behave yourselves. :)

Like I've always said, I live my life by a very simple set of principles set forth by William S. Preston, Esq. and Ted "Theodore" Logan. "Be excellent to each other. Party on, dudes!" If you think about it, that pretty much sums up how to live a good life. Enjoy your life, but don't be a dick.
