Expert9 Lesson1 DiscountRate

I have placed a field "DiscountRate" in the CustomerT, OrderT, and OrderDetailT.
I have then copied and pasted the DiscountRate Field and Label from the CustomerF onto the OrderF.
From the MainMenuF, I have picked Richard's CustomerF record (which has his DiscountRate of 40%) and then moved to the OrderF with its subform of line items. The DiscountRate in the OrderF is 0% despite setting its default value to =Forms![CustomerF]![DiscountRate].
So all the forms are opened to create the correct filtering. The formats of all the DiscountRate fields are percentage with 1 decimal place. I can't work out why this isn't working

What happens when you create a new record?

That does bring up the 40% in the DiscountRate field. I obviously forgot that changes to any discount rates are only seen in new records. When I tried to devise my own method for the homework I somehow managed to link the CustomerT with the OrderT and then the control source for the OrderF DiscountRate was CustomerT.DiscountRate. This method did show Richard's DiscountRate as 40%. (I deleted my version to follow Expert 9 and wasn't able to reproduce it but there is a relationship between the CustomerT, OrderT and OrderDetailT that should allow direct use of the CustomerT.DiscountRate in the OrderF). I guess that Richard will cover how to get the 40% to show in the OrderF before one creates a new record.
Hope you understand what I am saying here.
Thanks
