Going Crazy in 321
Carolyn Bendahan

I am struggling with a problem in ABCD part 4 Lesson 1 (EntityListF - Filter and Sort). Although I found a way to walk around, it drives me completely crazy. I even got up last night from sleep, because I thought I'd come up with a solution. I do understand all the code, thank you for the brilliant presentation. But here is what happens: Everything is working perfectly, then I close the Database. After reopening, the Filters do NOT work anymore. As soon as I import EntityListF from your database the filter works again (on my EntityListF as well as on yours). If I close it again, the Filter doesnt work on both forms. Any idea what I should do?

What is do not work? They do nothing or do you get an error message?

Have you done the basic Troubleshooter stuff?

Also, does Richards version if you leave it in the database and don't re-import it, work right away when you close/reopen it?

There is no error message, Listbox EntityF just does not show any results.
I left Richards Version in my db, but after reopening both Listbox do not show filter results anymore.
I havent done trouble shooting, I will do it in the next hours.

Does this problem occur in the stock version of my database? If so, then it's definitely something I'll have to look into and fix. If not, then it's going to be due to something that you added, and we'll have to do our best to help you troubleshoot it. But definitely run down the troubleshooter first, like Adam suggested.

It's not in your DB. I just tested it and it works perfectly.

I would start by message boxing the SQLStr in the RequeryForm sub so you can see what SQL is being written.

Hello Rick, Hello Kevin, Hello Adam,
thank you for your thoughts and everything. I just created a new db only: EntityT and EntityListF. Filtering doesn't work. I am afraid but nearly sure again it's a problem with my (German?) settings.

Yeah, sometimes the international settings can cause problems, whether you need commas in places where I've got decimal points, or whatever. So just be careful with that stuff.

I found the mistake, hallelujah. Those checkboxes were checked.

That'll do it. I covered this in my SQL seminar part three, but it's difficult to determine this is the error. It usually just looks like your database is being weird. So good catch. I've got a video about this on my to-do list. Maybe I'll bump it up. I should also add this to the troubleshooting checklist.

Yeah Rick! I had worked through your SQL seminar and luckily I remembered there was something going on in the options, so I went back to my notes of that seminar and bingo. It took me three days, but now I am a little less stupid as before ;). Thank you!

But now you'll never make that mistake again. LOL.
