Access and VB 2010
Kenneth Williams

Hello, my name is ken. I have been trying to find tutorials on VB 2010 Database programming from a beginner prospective. I need to understand how to create and maintain VB 2010 database information. Understand that the data that I want to manage is not standard information. What I mean is that I want to create a database that keeps records of bible scriptures (scripture library) and pray library of data that have the prayers, the people and the prayer types and other types of info. I would like to know, if it is better to learn MS Access 2010 by learning to use and program or find a video tutorial program that will teach me database programming form the beginning. I have used access before and I am not totally ignorance of its use but I am trying find a way to learn how to program VB 2010 by using VB 2010 or Access 2010 and or both. What do you suggest? Can you help me? I am interested in learning MS Access use and programming as in pertains to VB 2010.

Hi Ken. If you're going to learn how to program with Access, then you don't need to use VB 2010 which is a totally separate application. I think what you mean to say is that you want to learn how to program in VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) which is the VB behind Access. VB 2010 (and now VB 2012) is a separate programming platform for designing stand-alone applications. If you're going to use Access as your front-end interface, you don't need VB 2010.

With that being said, HOW you learn is up to you. Some people prefer books. Some people like to tear apart other programs to see how their made. Other people like step-by-step video tutorials, which is what my web site is all about.

I've got TONS of lessons available here. All of my Access 2010 tutorials are for beginners right now, but you may want to peruse the course outlines just to make sure there isn't anything in there that you don't know already. Lots of people who tell me "I don't need the basics" come back to me after skipping lessons and ask questions that were covered in those lessons. "Beginner" to me means "Fundamentals" and if your house has a shaky foundation, the rest of it won't be very strong.

After the beginner lessons, I have a ton of expert and advanced lessons available, but they're all for Access 2003. The material translates pretty well to 2010, however. See this video for complete details.
