Welcome to this video quiz from Access Learning Zone.

This one is for advanced users with 5 questions on Access forms and related data handling.

You'll have 3 seconds to answer each question, so hit the pause button if you need more time to consult the archive.

Keep track of your scores so you can see how you did at the end.

Are you ready?

Let's scan these life forms.

Question 1.

When does a form's Before Insert event occur?

After the record has been permanently deleted, just before Access inserts a new record, only when an existing record is edited, or when the database needs a coffee break.

That's going to be just before Access inserts a new record.

Get it? Before Insert.

Question 2.

Why can Access reject a new order detail record when its parent order has not yet been saved?

Animal records must always be entered directly in a table. A subform cannot contain combo boxes until the parent form closes. The child record needs a valid parent key to satisfy referential integrity, or Access requires all orders to contain exactly one product.

That's going to be C. The child record needs a valid parent key to satisfy referential integrity.

Question 3.

A new parent form has default values but no saved record yet.

What can make Access create and save that parent record before a child record is added?

Change a bound field on the parent record and save or refresh that record. Hide the parent form and reopen the child subform. Add the child record first and let Access calculate the parent ID. Change the parent table's primary key into short text.

That's going to be A. Change a bound field on the parent record and save or refresh that record.

Question 4.

A macro is running from a subform but needs to use a control on the parent form.

Which kind of reference is normally required?

Just the control name because all form controls are global. A full reference such as Forms!Parent!F!ControlName. The table name followed by an exclamation point. The control's Caption property in quotation marks.

The correct answer from those listed is B, a full reference such as Forms!Parent!F!ControlName.

Are there other ways? Yes, but that's the only one that was correct that was listed.

Question 5.

An order date field stores both dates and times.

What criteria most reliably finds all orders placed on a particular date?

Order date equals the requested date. Order date like the requested date. Order date greater than the requested date. Or order date greater than or equal to the requested date and order date less than the next day.

That's going to be D. Order date is greater than or equal to the requested date, and order date is less than the next day.

All right, how'd you do?

Did you get all five right?

Did you name a new species and survive its welcome hug?

Or did you open the archive at the screaming page?

Well, if you missed any of these, topics and more are covered in my Access Advanced Level 2 class, Lesson 2.

Thanks for playing.

Post your score in the comments and let us know how you did.

Until next time, live long and prosper.
