IntroIn this seminar, we will explore how to calculate fiscal years in Microsoft Access, starting with creating simple fiscal year calculations based on any month's first day. We will then cover how to calculate fiscal year totals using aggregate queries and grouping in reports, move on to more complex scenarios with non-standard start dates, and finally handle situations where you need to track fiscal years for multiple companies. This intermediate-level session includes step-by-step walkthroughs, including some VBA programming, making it ideal for users comfortable with tables, queries, and reports in Access.TranscriptWelcome to another seminar brought to you by AccessLearningZone.com. My name is Richard Rost. Today's seminar is all about calculating fiscal year in your Microsoft Access queries. There are four lessons in this short fiscal year seminar. In lesson one, I'll show you how to calculate a simple fiscal year. That's where your fiscal year starts on the first day of any given month, for example, June 1st. In lesson two, I'll show you how to calculate fiscal year totals, either in an aggregate query or in a grouping and sorting level in a report. In lesson three, I'll show you a more advanced situation where your fiscal year starts on a day that's not the first of a month, like June 15th. Finally, in lesson four, if you have multiple companies in your database and you have to be able to calculate the fiscal year based on that company's fiscal year start date, we'll cover that in this lesson. I consider this an intermediate level Microsoft Access seminar. You should have at least completed my beginner lessons and possibly Expert 1 as well. If not, you should have a solid understanding of how to create tables, queries, and reports in Access. There will be a little bit of VBA programming in lessons three and four, but don't worry, I will show you everything step by step as if you've never programmed before. If you want to download the sample database file from this lesson, you can find it at this webpage: 599cd.com/xstudb. Although the database is tiny, and you really should build the database that I've built in the lessons, you'll get a much better understanding for how this stuff works. If you have any questions about the lessons covered today, feel free to post them in the Access Forum on my website. Now sit back, relax, and get ready for lesson one. Thanks for watching. QuizQ1. SummaryToday's video from Access Learning Zone focuses on calculating fiscal years in Microsoft Access queries. In this seminar, I will guide you through four essential lessons to help you manage fiscal year data effectively in your Access databases. The first lesson introduces how to calculate a basic fiscal year, especially in cases where your fiscal year begins on the first day of a chosen month, such as June 1. In the next lesson, I will explain how to calculate fiscal year totals using either aggregate queries or by creating grouping and sorting levels within a report. Lesson three tackles a more complex situation where the fiscal year starts on a day other than the first of the month, for example, June 15. The final lesson addresses scenarios where your database contains records for multiple companies, each with its own unique fiscal year start date. I will show you how to calculate the fiscal year based on each company's specific start date. This seminar is designed for users who have at least completed my beginner Access lessons and possibly the first expert course. If you already know how to build tables, queries, and reports, you are ready for this material. In lessons three and four, we will touch on some VBA programming, but I will guide you through it step by step, even if you're completely new to programming. If you would like to work along with a sample database, you can find it on my website. However, I always recommend building your own database alongside the lessons to reinforce your understanding of these concepts. If anything is unclear or if you have questions as you work through these topics, you are welcome to post them in the Access Forum on my site. You can find a complete video tutorial with step-by-step instructions on everything discussed here on my website at the link below. Live long and prosper, my friends.
