Not a Finished Product

Please keep in mind that most of my template databases are not designed to be finished products that are ready to go in a working environment. My templates are meant as starting points for you to customize for yourself so you don't have to reinvent the wheel. This requires that you have a basic understanding of Microsoft Access development. To work on most of my databases you should have completed my Access Beginner series and the first couple levels of my Expert series at a minimum. Most of my databases require knowledge of SQL and VBA as well. Keep in mind that most of my templates are not like off-the-shelf software. They're starting points for developers to be able to modify and use as their own. It really is going to be in your benefit to watch all of the prerequisite videos so you understand the database and how it works moving forward. This is not like QuickBooks where you just install it and use it. My templates are mostly designed for people who already have an understanding of how Microsoft Access works.

Customize For Your Needs

If you would like to discuss customizing this template for your needs, and integrating it into your current setup, please see my consulting page for details. While I no longer accept custom jobs that are specific to a single user, I may include your features in a future version of this template if they have mass appeal. If you are looking for custom enhancements made to this template just for you, visit my Developer Network.

Technical Support

Please note that technical support is NOT guaranteed for any of my courses, seminars, or templates. If you require help with modifying this template, you may post a question in the Forums, however an answer to your question is not guaranteed. If this template comes with an accompanying Seminar, then you should purchase that Seminar to see how the database was constructed. If not, then you should have taken the suggested courses. Most of my templates are designed on a Developer level and you should have a thorough understanding of SQL and VBA before attempting to modify them. If you have a problem with one of my databases, I will only support the unmodified database exactly as it's downloaded from my site. If you have modified it in any way, it may not be something I can help you with. You can post in the Forums, and I may be able to help you, but if the issue doesn't exist in my unmodified database, it's not something I can support.

Intro In this video, I will show you how to use the new Microsoft Access Customer List Form template. We will learn how to create a searchable, filterable customer list using a continuous form, set up form headers and footers, make the list read-only, and add buttons and double-click events to open detailed customer records. I will also explain how to use a simple line of VBA code to customize double-click actions and demonstrate how the template is built from start to finish.
Transcript Welcome to another video from AccessLearningZone.com. In this video, I'd like to introduce a new tutorial and template that I just released. It's called the Customer List Form. In this database, we build a customer list, which is a list on the screen of all the customers in your database.

You can scroll up and down it, you can filter it, and you can search it. Most importantly, you can double-click on one of them to open up the main customer record. Let me show you how it works.

Here's our basic database. We've got a customer form. Let's open that up. It's a simple, single form. You can see first name, last name, address, and all that. I cover this in the customer database template.

It's a free template, and there's a tutorial on how to build this on YouTube and on my website. Check the links below for more information. You can click here and scroll through these records, but it's not very user-friendly.

In the customer list template, we have this thing here called the customer list F. This is what we build in this class, and that's what the template includes. You've got a nice list of all your customers. You can scroll up and down it. I've only got three in here, but if we had more, you could scroll up and down. You can double-click on one of these customers to open up that customer's record.

You can do all the same things in here. You can search, sort it, filter, and double-click. Or you can use this little button down here to open the customer, whichever works for you.

In this lesson, I teach you about continuous forms, how to turn on the form header and footer, and how to set it so the user can't edit this form. In order to edit the record, you have to open it up and edit it on this form. We're going to lock this form down.

I'll teach you how to create this button here to open up the customer form. That's actually one of the form button wizards, which is pretty easy to do. Then, with one line of VB code, I'll teach you how to create an on double-click event, which happens when you double-click on a field. That, with one line of VB code, will open up the customer form. Don't be scared of VB. It's real easy, and I'll show you all the commands that you need.

So that's what's included in the customer list form template. It's a fully editable template and about an 18-minute video showing you how I built it.

For more information and to get your copy, visit this page. I'll put a link in the description below the video. This template is actually built on a previous template that I built that's on YouTube and on my website for free. It's the customer database template. There's a link to that, which is also on the other page.

I've got lots more free lessons. My complete three-hour long beginner level one Access tutorials are on my website. There's a link to that. If you like level one, level two is just a dollar. There's the link for that.

Thanks for watching. If you have any questions, feel free to drop a comment below or there's my personal email address. Feel free to contact me.

Summary Today's video from Access Learning Zone is an introduction to a new tutorial and template that I've just released, called the Customer List Form. In this database project, I guide you through building a customer list form, which allows you to view all the customers in your database in one organized list on your screen.

The form is designed to let you scroll through customers, apply filters, and perform searches. One important feature is the ability to double-click on any customer in the list to open their full record for more detailed information.

To start, I review the basic customer form included in the database. This standard form shows details like first name, last name, address, and so on. The customer database template, which covers this type of single record form, is available as a free download with a step-by-step tutorial on both YouTube and my website. While the basic form lets you click through individual records, it can feel clunky and isn't the most efficient way to navigate a large list of customers.

That's where the new Customer List Form template comes in. The class covers how to build a more user-friendly interface, featuring a list of all your customers you can quickly scroll through. Although my sample only has three customers, the form supports scrolling and navigation for any number of records. You can double-click any customer in the list to jump directly to their full customer record.

The form also includes the ability to search, sort, and filter the customer list for easier navigation. You can open a customer's full record either by double-clicking their entry or by clicking a dedicated button. Both methods work seamlessly, and I explain how to set them up.

In this lesson, I walk you through creating a continuous form and how to enable the form header and footer for an improved layout. I also teach you how to lock down the form so users cannot edit records directly on the list form; edits are only allowed when you open the detailed customer form. I'll show you how to add a button that opens the customer form using the form button wizard, which is straightforward to use.

One of the useful techniques I cover is how to add an on double-click event to a field, so when a user double-clicks a customer in the list, their record opens instantly. This only requires a single line of VBA code, and I guide you through that step even if you're new to programming. There's nothing to be intimidated about with VBA; I'll explain all the commands you need for this feature.

The customer list form template is fully editable and includes an eighteen-minute video tutorial where I walk through the entire build process.

If you want more details or would like a copy of the template, visit my website using the link below. This customer list form is based on my earlier customer database template, which is also available for free on YouTube and my website. You can find links to that as well.

There are many more Access lessons available, including my three-hour long beginner Access Level 1 course, also free on my website. If you find Level 1 helpful, you can get Level 2 for just a dollar.

If you have any questions, you're welcome to leave a comment or email me directly. You can find a complete video tutorial with step-by-step instructions on everything discussed here on my website at the link below.

Live long and prosper, my friends.
