I know I'm a bit late to this comments on Access backup, but just wanted to share what I ended up doing to my database after a near disaster.
I placed the backup code into a button on a database I nearly lost. Next I placed some code behind my "close" button of the database with a message box asking whether or not I performed the "Backup". I f I select "yes", the database closes, if I select "no" the database remains open to perform the backup. I know I could have coded it to perform the backup when selecting "no", but opted not to.
