Access Developer 7 Lesson 1

I am getting an error message in the PaymentF under OrderID. Originally, when I saw this, I discovered that when I made the PaymentT, I misspelled OrderID and then corrected it. I then recreated the default value in the Property Sheet, but I am still getting that message. Please see screenshots and let me know what I am missing here.

Hi Ken, does it show "Name?" when you open the PaymentF from an order, or just when you first open it after building the form? I initially tried opening from the Navigation pane, and it showed "Name?" just like yours, but then after getting the OrderF to open and pressing the Payment button, it worked fine.

Reason I had trouble getting things to open was merely because my lesson copies I created got deleted when my pc crashed awhile back and the lesson files were from an older, 32-bit version of Access, so it keeps throwing PtrSafe warnings at me.

Hi Donald, it happens when you first open the Payment form. I haven't gone as far as to place the buttons on the OrderF yet. I was able to add to it by entering information in through the PaymentT

Try opening OrderF first and leave it open, then open PaymentF from the Navigation pane and it will work fine.

The "Name?" is just saying that it can't find the field identified in the default value of OrderID because that form is not open.

I was just about to write to you and let you know that I've just discovered this. Apparently, both forms need to be open for that to all work just like you said.  There are just some things that are missing from the videos each time. However, it certainly prompts you to look around and search for the answer. Thanks once again!

It can't reference a value from a Form that isn't open.
