Meal List Form Current Event
Kim Boren

I have both MealF and MealListF created. I have the VB code for "If IsLoaded ("MealListF") Then Forms!MealListF.Recordset.Requery". In the form, current. When I go to my MealF and make a change to quantity the MealF updates, however the MealListF does not. I have been throught fitness 14 video several times. But I can't get it to work. Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like you're really close, so let me help you over that last hurdle. In the video, I talked about putting the code that saves the record (Me.Dirty = False) and then does the requery for the MealListF in the right event so the MealListF shows your updated values after you make changes to MealF. The trick is making sure the requery happens after your changes are saved.

If the MealListF is not updating instantly, double-check that you've put the code in the *On Current* event of MealF, as well as in places like AfterUpdate for controls that change things (like quantity). That's the main spot where the requery goes, since it triggers whenever you move between records or make edits. If you only put it in one spot, there are cases (like deletions or quick edits) that might not get picked up right away.

Here's the rough idea again: in the AfterUpdate or OnCurrent event of MealF, make sure you have something like:

If IsLoaded("MealListF") Then
    Forms!MealListF.Recordset.Requery

And also use Me.Dirty = False before the requery to commit the record.

If you've done all that and MealListF still doesn't update, make sure both forms are actually open at the same time when you test, and double-check that you're referencing the correct names for the forms. Sometimes a typo in the form name can sneak by. Lastly, if you're updating the meal and not switching records, you may need to click out of the field or force the save event so Access knows you're done making changes.

Let me know if you're still stuck after all that. And remember, saving and requerying feels a little like Spock trying to get a stubborn computer to listen - sometimes you have to be just a little more logical with the timing.

Richard,

Thank you for your response. I have been through everything again, meaning the video and worked through your response. My calories and protein do not update on the meallistf, they do on the mealf. However, I did the change of the description on the mealf and it did change on the meallistf. So I am still stuck.
