Genealogy Db Combo Box Missing Data

Hi all, I have a question about data not showing up in the ChildF of my (Richard's) Genealogy DB. The data was there before I started playing around with it. I'm not sure what I did but now there are about 3 records (myself, my son and my daughter) not showing up. Screen shots to follow.

Is this exactly the database file as you originally downloaded it from me, or have you made any changes to the tables, queries, forms, relationships, or code?

The screenshots alone do not show enough for me to tell what changed. Since the records were visible before and now only a few are missing from ChildF, something was likely changed in the form's Record Source, Filter, Link Master Fields/Link Child Fields properties, or possibly in the underlying data itself.

If you made changes, let me know specifically what you changed, even if it seemed minor.

It looks like you may have just deleted the names from the father record, but I can't tell for sure from the screenshots alone.

Open the father record in PersonF and check whether the FirstName and LastName fields are still populated. Also, open the underlying PersonT and verify that those three people still have records there and that their MotherID and FatherID values are correct.

Richard I have made many changes throughout the years, ie adding MiddleName, OtherNameLastNames etc.. I try to incorporate new stuff after watching your TechHelp videos. I thoroughly enjoy by the way.

I have restored from my backup file and it worked fine. I could not figure out why that happen. It seemed to be after I change the sql in the FatherCombo of the ChildF

SELECT [PersonFullNameQ].[PersonID], [PersonFullNameQ].[FullName] FROM PersonFullNameQ WHERE (Gender=-1 OR Gender=-2) ORDER BY [FullName];

from [FullName] to [FullNameLF] .

That makes sense. Changing FatherCombo from FullName to FullNameLF should not, by itself, cause child records to disappear, assuming PersonFullNameQ still returns the same PersonID values.

Most likely, something else changed at the same time, or the query's new FullNameLF expression affected the query in an unexpected way. The important thing is that the bound column remains PersonID. The displayed name can be FullName, FullNameLF, or anything else, but the combo must store the numeric PersonID in FatherID.

Since restoring the backup fixed it, I would make a copy of that working database before trying the change again. Then change only the combo's Row Source and test it. If the problem returns, compare the records in PersonT and look specifically at FatherID, MotherID, and Gender for the missing children. That will tell us whether the records are being filtered out or whether one of the parent ID values was accidentally changed.

And thank you - I'm glad you're enjoying the TechHelp videos.
