Interesting additional use for this technique: it can also help eliminate form flicker in some situations.

We recently had a discussion in the Access Forum where a user was experiencing some pretty severe flickering on a form with multiple continuous subforms. He tried several of the usual fixes, including turning painting off, changing scrollbars, checking tab stops, and simplifying what was being updated.

Eventually he discovered that the flicker was being triggered when he requeried one of the subforms. He was using something like:

Forms!MyForm!MySubform.Form.Requery

He changed it to:

Forms!MyForm!MySubform.Form.Recordset.Requery

...and the flickering disappeared.

That's exactly the technique I demonstrate in this video. The funny part is that I originally made this video to solve a completely different problem: how to requery a continuous form without losing your current position and jumping back to the top.

So if you found this page because you're searching for things like "Access form flicker," "continuous form flickering," "subform flicker after requery," or similar problems, give Recordset.Requery a try. It won't necessarily solve every type of Access form flicker, but if a normal Form.Requery is what's triggering the redraw, this may be a very simple fix.

This is also a good reminder that sometimes the solution already exists, but we're searching for the symptom instead of the underlying cause. I made this video three years ago and even I didn't think of it when the question first came up. :)
