DSUM issue
Tim Schmidt

I have ran Lesson 01 and it stops after midway explaining the RunningBalance.  The video just plain STOPS.  So I go to Lesson 02 and I always have get hungup on a Dsum function.  I am typing the following: RunningBalance:Dsum(Credit,CheckRegT, ID &[ID])
And get a Enter Parameter V.. for :Credit and for CheckRegT, ID and   The result is #Error in the RunningBalance.  The one thing that rids of the Paramater V for Credit is the following:
RunningBalance:Dsum([Credit], CheckRegT, ID & [ID])

I can not go on

Your video stops on l, and I have tried over 50 times to get the Dsum to work.  I will need back my money if someone won't assist me.  The statement I use is the following:

RunningBalance:Dsum(Credit, CheckRegT, ID& [ID])

What browser are you using?
If you download the video lessons zip does that run ok?
If you download the sample db does that run ok and the balance is showing correctly?

Youd need "ID="&[ID] or "ID=[ID]"

Hi Tim. I'm glad you got the video working. In the future, if the video hangs for you at any particular point, take a note and post the TIME INDEX here in the comments and I'll see if it needs to recompiled.

As far as assisting you with your database, when you purchase one of my lessons, you are buying the lesson. Technical support and assistance are NOT included for free, and are NOT guaranteed. Alex and I do as much as we can to help people here in the Forums, but don't say things like "I will need back my money if someone won't assist me." My terms of sale are very specific. Support is NOT included. I'm happy to help you here if I have time, but please don't be so demanding... especially seeing as you posted your problem on a SUNDAY.

I like to help my students as much as I can, and I spend a LOT of time answering questions FOR FREE, but it's NOT technically included when you buy a class. I do offer paid consulting if you have problems you need a solution for right away.

As far as getting a copy of the database, it's right above at the top of this page in the section that says "Database Files." You can download the ACCDB file right there. That's the file I created in class. As you can see from the video, what I did WORKS. Nobody else has had a problem. If you deviated from what I showed in the video, then I can't be responsible for it not working.

I can see from looking at the code you posted, that you're missing " marks everywhere. You put:

RunningBalance:Dsum([Credit], CheckRegT, ID & [ID])

It should be:

RunningBalance: DSum("Credit", "CheckRegT", "ID=" & ID)

You have to follow what I typed EXACTLY or it's not going to work.

The pre-requisites for this course do say that "Developer Level 1" is recommended. You have only gone through a few of my Expert classes, so you don't have a lot of experience with functions like DSUM and DLOOKUP. I would recommend you watch these free videos first: DLOOKUP, DSUM. They're covered in more detail in the higher-level Expert classes too.

Sorry for sounding harsh earlier, but I really get upset when someone complains that they want their money back because they're not getting help. Alex and I give a LOT of free help when help isn't even included in the price of admission. We do our best. You don't buy a car and expect free driving lessons. You don't buy a book and expect to be able to email questions to the author. My courses don't come with free help GUARANTEED. It's something I provide when I have free time. It's right on the short list of notes on top of my TERMS OF SALE, a link to which is displayed prominently on every page of my order form. "I do my best to help my students as much as possible, but I can't GUARANTEE free technical support on the material covered in my lessons. Paid support is available, however."

Remember, this stuff ain't easy. If you don't have a programming background, it can be a challenge. I try to show you as simply as I can in the videos how to do what needs to be done, but it's a developer-level course. If you're following along with the video step-by-step then it should work exactly as I show you. However, if you go "off-script" and try to do something different, then I can't promise it's going to work.
