Check Register

Can transactions be imported from my bank? I can download bank transactions to a csv file. Can the csv file be imported into the register? Do I have to manually enter each transaction into the register?

Absolutely.  I don't see a problem at all except their data structure and yours most likely will not be the same.

I would first import the data to a "temporary" table.  Then use an Append Query(s) to insert the data into the proper fields to the register.

Try everything out with a COPY of your db first.  Get everything working as you like, then we'll help walk you through moving it over to your live db.

I say a copy because you'll have goofs along the way I'll almost guarantee. Backup, Backup, Backup!

Use the search box above for "Importing" and also "Append Queries"

To clarify, I can import my csv transactions into the check register? I do not have to manually enter transactions one at a time?
I appreciate your advice to learn with a copy and backup often. My slogan for that is SOSSave Often Stupid. Saved me many times from disaster. Thanks for your help.

Its been a while since ive been in this template but yes. If you can import the information that would normally go into a new record, you can just bulk import one or many records from your csv

Just to add to my previous comment as it appears that you are asking pre-purchase questions.

There is NOT a functionality that is "pre-built" into the template to import your data.  The differences in what the different bank(s) provide in their download make it necessary to make it individual to your circumstances.

The beauty of Access, and this template, is you can do do relatively easily.  If it is something you want to learn and do for yourself there is a lot of resources here.  There are also developers on this forum - Adam being one - that take work on the side or as their business.

You are correct I have not yet purchased the Check Register. Am I correct that I should purchase BOTH the Check Register and the Access Check Register Seminar? The Check Register Seminar does NOT include the Check Register?

My understanding of it is the seminar will get you both. The seminar will teach you how to make it yourself, and there should be a download as well for the classes that is the template. If you buy the template you just get the template ONLY.

Since you are a Silver member you can check out the first two lessons of the seminar in the TecHelp Videos here:
Check Register

Also, read the resources links at the top of this page.  They explain in great detail what you will be getting.  There is even a free ACCDE file (no source code - no modifications) you can try out before you buy.

The Seminar includes those two videos as well, but then Richard continues on, "Fleshing out" what was built in the first two lessons with additional functionality. Lessons 3-9.

If you feel comfortable enough with Access that you don't want the additional videos you can get just the template separately.

If you do want the instructional videos, the full seminar includes the full, editable, template that you can modify to customize to your needs.

Hope that helps.

Yep, always better to learn how it's done so you know what you're getting into when you go to customize it ;).

Hi Larry. The guys are right... every bank is different, so while YES you can import transactions, you have to know how to set up the import specific to your bank's formatting. I'm going to be making an add-on for this seminar in the future showing how to do this, at least with my banks. :)
