ABCD Data Import
Mike Riggs

Hi I am trying to load an Excel file of client data into the ADBC database. The excel file already has email, phone and address data in it.  I am trying to find the best way to import to a new table and then split out the email, address, and phone numbers to the separate related tables. Or a better way to segment that data properly in those tables.

The simple answer is there is not a simple answer.

Does your Excel sheet contain a unique identifier for your clients? If so, I would import your sheet into a temporary table.  Then using a series of append queries you would have to split out your data to the appropriate tables.

If it does not have a unique ID for the clients, it becomes much more involved.

We also don't have any knowledge as to your experience level how to even start out helping you so it is hard to just say do X then Y then Z.

The ABCD is not yet "Ready for Prime Time" to use as a completed solution.  You might note as well that there isn't any support for this.  It is a demonstration class not a teaching class.

Hi Mike. Like Scott said, there's no easy solution to this. I'd suggest temporarily adding a field to your EntityT to import the email and address data, then use an append query to move those over to the appropriate tables, then you can delete the temp fields. Another member recently asked me a similar question to this. I might make a TechHelp video out of it. Stay tuned.
