Hi, I have a question about tables, this is going to be crazy I am sure. I have a process that requires two tables with the exact information One an outline table and one a course table. I have to track the outline details and once the outline is approved then the course can be created. The course is an exact copy of the outline in the beginning. I am trying to avoid duplicate entry. Once the outline is approved and the course started the course can change from the outline. I am not sure how to handle this. I am looking for suggestions on how to set this up. If possible.

Richard covers something very similar in Expert 10 using Quote or Invoice. Basically, you would not have two tables exactly the same - you would add a field that designates Outline or Production (or what ever you call it).

The alternative would be to use and append and then a delete query to copy one record from x table to y table then remove it from x. Personally, I could see going either way. I think I would opt for only having one table with an extra field unless you have lots and lots of courses that never get approved.

I've had clients who wanted a QuoteT table and then an InvoiceT table so they could keep their original proposals separate from the finished Invoice so they could go back to review it. Yes, in that case I just recommend using an Append Query to copy the quote data to the invoice table to make your copies.
