Skip rows in Excel import
Brian Crawford

I have an Excel file created from an export from another system that is regularly imported into my Access database.  This Excel file typically starts with a summary in the first 1-4 rows that describes the total number of rows in the report or other details like the external system report name or filters used.

I have instructed the users to edit and save a copy of this file with the beginning rows deleted before importing so that the Access Excel import engine can properly identify the column headings, data, and field types.  I would like to enable the users to open the raw file and have VBA handle this rest to improve the user experience and avoid ingest errors.

What is the best way to use VBA to skip over these preamble rows before processing it as an Excel file?

There's a lot of ways you could do this. You could import the rows and then delete them in Access. You could use automation and delete the rows from Access inside of Excel. You could export the data from Excel as a CSV file and then delete those first four rows with File I/O. All depends on how you want to go about it.
