Decades ago, I consulted on a few different apps that put passwords on forms or fields. The poor users had notebooks all over the place for the thirty or forty passwords they needed to do their work. It kind of defeated the purpose of having passwords, unless the designer didn't want people to get any work done.

Richard was clear this is a one or few time thing. Don't even start. Watch the security video.

A well-developed system knows who is using it and what they can or can't do. For example, before I let a user into a form, I know if they can use it (or not) {by day, time, location, user level based on the application module [a manager in payroll has different access than a manager in human resources] and down to the individual user}, just cruise the records (read only), edit, delete, copy, etc.

In the image above, all that a user can do with a form is controlled by command buttons.
The ones in green are enabled, so this user can only view records (help and search too), not make changes (Edit grayed out).
Other command buttons can be enabled to control what different users can do.
The order of the buttons may seem odd, but I did that to help eliminate mouse click errors (i.e., click on Exit when Save was needed).
