Form Expressions

I have two tables related by courseID one is for the course details and the others is to log issues for the course.

I then have two forms one with all the course details and one for the course issues.

I put a check box in the courseDetails form that opens the issue log when selected what I would like is for the course ID to come in from the course details form when the check box is selected.

In the form for issues I used the following expression =[Forms]![frmCourseDetails]![courseID] the field populates with the correct course ID, but I get an error when I try to save
cannot find a record in the table "tblCourse" with key matching fields courseID.

there is a courseID in both tables. Am I applying the expression wrong?

I can get it to work without the error but the Course ID Topic ID and Course name do not come over to the table. I will post a photo. Maybe an expression is not the answer. Just when I think I am learning...LOL

Your expressions are in the control source. Try moving them to the Default Value instead. Also, when referring to a value on a subform you have to use `.Form` in the expression: `=Forms!ParentFormName!SubformName.Form!FieldName`
