ParentChild tables

Dear Sir,

Happy new year 2023!
If you have a parent table and a child table that is where the slowness is noticed, however, a single table with a form bound to it works normally.

Is there something I'm missing here? just experiment it if your tables have at least 20 controls on them and combo boxes say 5, that will be bad news

Regards
Christopher

Since your system does not allow attaching a sample database, kindly your check your email to view this small database. In access it works so fast but in sql server it's almost impossible to use

Tech support is not included in classes. There's just not enough time in the day for Rick to review everyone's databases for problems. If you want someone to look at it for you, you could consider posting over at the DevNet for paid support.

If your problem only occurs when bringing SQL server in, it's almost definitely related to queries or dlookup type functions conjoined with possible internet issues. It's hard to say exactly. Since you say "parent table and child table" I'm assuming that means they are in a query?

The problem occurs after finishing capturing the data in the parent form, then the cursor cannot go into the child table even if you force it, it will just hang. But the same forms work very well in Microsoft Access, could it be we are not supposed to bind the Access form to linked table if yes, then what do we do?

Could you provide some pictures? Anything you think might be relevant so we can get a better idea of what is happening?

Things like Record Source, especially if it's a query, the query in design view. Is there any code on the forms that fire during saving the parent? Master and Child link setup on the subform?

After investing getting the slowness in the software, it has become clear that it is actually coming from the ODBC string, example the 95 tables in SQL server Express takes 2 minutes to relink the table in the internet database it 18 minutes.

Any idea how to improve the connection string speed?

OK I have sorted out this problem it required cleaning the tables first by deleting unused controls especially combo boxes
