Other than localization and inserting of symbol, is there any real benefit to formatting at the table level as currency?

I like to do as little as possible with tables and control from form level instead. For example, you use Yes/No type. I don't see any advantage to this over using a basic number type.

So, other than Short Text, Long Text and number, the only other field type i would use is Date/Time. Why wouldn't you use number instead of currrency?
