I have a form with all the controls getting their data from fields in table X. However I need to add a checkbox that gets its data from a field in a different table Y.

I've tried various ways of doing this using syntax like "Control Source" "=[table]![field]". But nothing works. I either get a run time error 2447: the is an invalid use of the dot or parenthesis operator. If I leave out the "=" equals sign, I see a message stating the parameter is not updatable.

Can anyone recommend how to specify a different data source table and field for a single checkbox on a form that has a completely different data source table?

I need to tie the checkbox into the field of a different table so the checkbox state is both saved and retrieved like all the other controls on the form.

Have you tried using SQL? An UPDATE statement in the After Update event of the Check Box will save the value.

Are they related in anyway? Could you join the info in a QUERY and then make that the RecordSource of your Form?

I tried both ways - didn't work. I ended up brute forcing with recordsets, Now it works fine.
