I'm looking for the best way to specify a default selection for a 2in. wide ComboBox whose RecordSource is a 3 field "reference" Table with all 3 fields included, but the column widths are 0;0;2 and the Bound Column is 0. Let's assume the 3 fields of each record are . . .

[1] AUkeyID (an AutoNumber),
[2] NLorder (a Number of LongInteger type) and
[3] XSname (as ShortText data type.

Thus the "dropped down" control displays a menu of 3 string values (identified, above, as [3]), and the selected item has its key ([0]) stored in the Forms Bound Table.

All works fine as I have constructed the control currently, but HOW DO I SPECIFY ONE OF THE [3]STRINGS AS DEFAUT?

Set the default to whatever that string is as the bound column. If the autonumber is 5 for "Shoes" and the autonumber is the bound column, you can just put 5 in there and should get "Shoes" to show as the default.

Works! Thanks! Actually, I was confounded by an issue with the way I set up the reference table. All is good now, thank you for the help.
