The default value needs to be changed to 1 for the gender field in design view in the CustomerExtendedT table before the unspecified option can be a default value for new records.
I'm sorry for the confusion. It was a statement. In lesson 2 shortly before the 9 minute mark it shows that right after the 'Unspecified ' option is created under 'Female', the option value for 'unspecified' is set to 1. However, the default value on the customer extended T table is still set to zero, or female. I had to go back to design view to set the default value to 1 in order for unspecified to show us the default value, when entering a new record on the form.
