This may be a really stupid question but why does the search combo box in design view say "unbound" when as far as I can tell, it is bound to the Company Name?

Take a look at the Control Source of the Combo Box.
If it is blank the control is Unbound.
If there is a Field Name in the Control Source, the control is bound to that field.
Are you confusing Control Source with Row Source?
