DoubleEntry Accounting

In the double-entry this is a continuous form, every time you open it, it is a continuation of the previous entries. What I would like is to be able to start with a fresh form each month without deleting any previous entries. ie I would be able to open Januarys ledger, or whatever month I choose and only see that month, I know you can do that with a report, however for data entry I want a fresh form each time I open it and be able to save each one seperately. I could be barking up the wrong tree but can this be done in a way I am not thinking of?

Just a thought but maybe could use a button on ledger that would; "Post the entries to the general ledger and clear the form" Thought?

You could certainly do this. All you would need is a field to mark whether or not an item is posted, and then check that box for any item that becomes posted. You could do it with an update query whenever your month ends, and then all those items will get posted and effectively hidden from the form. You could then make another box to view those items if you want to or just see the unposted items. It's completely up to you. I know I cover this concept in several of my Developer lessons but I do have a TechHelp video on something similar to this coming out soon so stay tuned.

Thank you, I am trying to replace an Accounting program that I use to use, they have changed their program and initiated a lot of requirements I don't like. Have most of the features I need working like invoices and purchase orders. Just having some issues getting a general journal to post to the general ledger and let me save the general journals with a unique name for audit trail.

I can appreciate that. In the meantime, take a look at these two videos that might give you some help. I've got some videos on archiving data and marking data inactive instead of deleting it. It's going to be the same concept, but in this particular case, I wouldn't move the data to a different table because it makes it much more difficult to report on. Archive Records. Don't Delete Data.

Thank you Mr Rost, I will get this worked out if it takes to infinity and beyond. They seem to be simple issues but not quite there yet. been watching videos till my eyes are fuzzy. Second Star to the Right "that's my goal.

Could you apply a filter to the form and default the filter to whatever month today is in? DatePart video covers some of the material.  You could use a combo box to set the selection of month.

Thank you Matt I will give that a try.
