Hi Richard, I get this error on the exclamation mark.  I have not used it before and not sure what the problem is.

Private Sub Command18_Click()
    DoCmd.OpenForm "AncestorF"
    !DogID = DogID
    !DogName = DogName
End Sub

Error: Compile Error:
Invalid or unqualified reference

Remove the exclamation mark. If that is your actual field name, you would have to enclose it in brackets like [!DogID] That kind of setup looks like what you would normally do with (.) and a "With" statement `With MyLabel .Height = 2000 .Width = 2000 .Caption = "This is MyLabel" End With` It could also just be a typo that is supposed to be Me!Field

Actually that code doesn't make much sense if you remove the exclamation mark, its right after opening a form so more than likely it's supposed to be Forms!formAncestor!DogID=DogID
