Sending email via CDO
Bruce McCormick

To keep me from finding a bridge from which to jump i am about to walk away from my computer right after posting the following:

I have verified the two modules of code as presented in part two of the CDO series so many times that the screens are burnt into my eyeballs. That doesn't mean everything is right, but for now i am as certain as can be. DeBug|Compile runs flawlessly

I went to my Google account and after much frustration (i guess they like to change how to find the app password section for fun), i created, copied and pasted my nice new 16 character password into the appropriate place.

Every time i try to send i get the following:
"Run-Time error '-2147220973 (80040213)':
The transport failed to connect to the server." (beginning and ending double quotes added)

I get that message after about 10 seconds of hanging (i set timeout to 300), and the Debug line is the .send line. Verified the public constants.

Anyone specifically know what i best check to figure this one out?

(And don't say "Check yahoo and scrap gmail"...)

Thank you!!!
-Bruce

P.S. I am not highly encouraged when i try to check out the schema and get pages that state: The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

I had something similar and maybe this will help you. The answer for me turned out to be changing the email port from 587 to 25.

Thank you! If it works, it works, even though that port is blocked by many due to it being a non-secure port highly used by spammers-

That's right; common ports are blocked in many email servers, which could lead to you not being able to send and/or receive email.

If you need email for business purposes, consider registering a private domain, then use a host service like Winhost to get email service.  And you won't have to deal with such nonsense from Gmail, Yahoo, or any free and publicly available services.

Gmail and Yahoo state in their terms that they "read the content* of your email to know what ads to send you.  They've done this for a long time now.  Any remotely personal info in your outgoing and incoming email is all fair game for them to grab.  That's another reason to get a private domain.

Than you Kevin, i need to look into how that works.

And this isn't easy to admit to, but i owe you, Joe, and everyone who considered my issue a great apology. Though i scoured the code for any deviation whatsoever, i was so tunnel visioned that i didn't stop to do the same to the constants, and there i found my error. Rather so embarrassing that i hate to mention, but as you will recall one constant was usessl, definitely NOT usess1...

@Kevin - I do not wish to impose, and you know that that which follows such an opening statement is a request to impose-
I have the domain mccormick-associates.com hosted with GoDaddy. I called them and asked if it were possible to route emails direct through my account somehow from Office applications without using Outlook and instead of routing through Google or Yahoo. At first he was confused by my request, and then he might as well have been speaking some ancient Aramaic dialect, something about my going to "C-Panel" (OK, i do recall long ago my going through that on their website for account related configuration) and setting up my own email server which would require doing something with a DNS.

The use of this is so my friends in Oklahoma (i am in Virginia) can make use of a portion of the project i am creating for them to automate advising the few companies that they took internally for financing that they were about to withdraw a payment by ACH, had withdrawn a payment by ACH or that an ACH failed. None of these items would they want Google nor Yahoo viewing; it's a company's private business.

My best thoughts at present are to watch Mr. Rost's "Make your own mail server" (OK, so i paraphrased) and to ask you if you would be able to clarify whether or not this was the right direction, and if so, give me a shove a little further.

Thank you, if for nothing else, considering my confusion-

Best Regards,
Bruce

CPanel is a web interface for configuring your website and private email accounts.  Many hosting services like Winhost and GoDaddy have it (see picture below).  You click "Email" to go to the email configuration screen, where you add user names, passwords, and are given the email host name.  With that info, you use Richard's method for CDO.
