Load Multiple Images
Kevin Yip

When working with multiple images, some kind of thumbnail system is needed to let users browse and find images quickly.  Thumbnails are kind of ubiquitous in apps nowadays, from Windows Explorer, to Instagram and shopping sites, etc., so the public is used to the idea of seeing them.  In a business setting, where speed and efficiency matter, thumbnails can be helpful too or even essential.

Access can show record-specific thumbnails on a continuous form, but it cannot show them on a grid-like layout like in Instagram -- because records can only go down, not horizontally.

If the exact number of images for a record is known and constant, you can set up a specific number of image controls on a form, with whatever layout you want (see picture below).

Below is a continuous form with record-specific images serving as thumbnails:

Yeah, thumbnails are handy. I did a video a little while back about resizing images using FFMPEG. Resize Images.

I did cover making multiple columns of images in forms and reports - horizontal thumbnails, if you will. Reports is easy (just use columns). Forms was a bit more of a challenge... Access Developer 38.
